ScreenSkills Certified Traineeship

Grip & Camera

Gripping includes working with cranes, jibs, dollys and tracks as well as other equipment needed by the camera department.  These creative technical positions are specialist and highly sought after within the industry.  This course is taught at ESA by professional advanced Grips who are members of the BECTU Grips & Cranes Technical Branch.

The course will start with 6 weeks of specialist training from qualified visiting industry professionals. There will then be a bootcamp delivered by industry professionals focusing on career development before you begin your first 5 weeks of production practice, either working with a client on a live brief or onset with a production partner.

You’ll then come back to ESA for your second semester where you will get more training to further develop your specialist skills and knowledge before completing a second round of production practice.

We are so grateful to industry partners who support, or have supported our Grip Traineeship by offering visits, tours, equipment loans and work placements or by providing guest lecturers / workshops:
